I think character emotional arcs are something that can get shortchanged. A really talented editor can see the moments when a character behaves or thinks in a manner that will throw the story off course or make the person unrealistic, unrelatable, deeply unlikable.

Hi Laurel -

Great points! One of my editors picked up on a reaction that was out of character. It made a huge difference in the story.

Blessings,
Susan :)

As a writer, my favorite tool is to read my work aloud to make sure it flows well, and that I'm not repeating words in the same paragraph.

As a reader, I don't enjoy long descriptions or narratives. I tend to skim them to get to the dialogue and action.

Hi Jen -

Long descriptions of scenery, etc. put me to sleep. They're good if you suffer from insomnia.

Blessings,
Susan :)
