Friday Round-Up - #173

Janalyn Voight, at Author Haven, provides a proofreading checklist. I don't know about you, but I can sure use this.

Writers: Have you gone through your manuscript umpteen times, and still find mistakes? What steps do you take to present a clean copy to editors/agents?

Readers: Do you get aggravated when you come across misspellings and other errors in a book? Does it cause you to abandon the story or do you forge ahead?

NEWSFLASH! My friend, Maria Morgan, of Life Lessons, and several other women are starting a Monday through Saturday Devotional Page on Facebook. It's called, "Living By Grace." It will launch on Monday, September 12, 2011.

The writers are Joanne Sher, Maria I. Morgan, Jessica R. Patch, Lynda Schultz, Patty Wysong, and Jennifer Slattery. Hop over to their Facebook page today, and say "hello." And grab your Bibles and join them on Monday for the official launch of Living by Grace!

Have a great weekend!

Oh, misspelling and such... I've made them, I've missed them, I don't like them. But I have yet to hold the first book in my hands that does NOT have any typo's.
Thanks for this round-up Susan, have a great weekend. Enjoy!

Hi Marja -

I often find typos or small problems in books, but I forge ahead. It's a wonder there aren't more with the number of people working on the manuscript.

Blessings,
Susan :)

I have my own revision checklist, and I also print the book out in a different font, and read it out loud. It helps a lot!

Living by Grace sounds terrific!

A million thanks for the shout out for Living by Grace, Susan! Looking forward to Monday's launch.

Typos and such are a bit aggravating, but they don't cause me to abandon the story - I continue to forge ahead. Grace is good! Happy weekend!

Typically I look passed errors, though I sometimes feel bad for the authors and/or editors who eventually kick themselves for having missed them.

I'm about to start a new Bible study next week too. What a great way to usher in Fall!

Hi Jill -

I should adopt your checklist. My SOTP writing seems to have carried over to my editing habits!

Blessings,
Susan :)

Hi Maria - You're welcome! I'm glad I could help spread the word.

It takes an awful lot for me to give up on a book. Like you, I try to give the author grace. Someday, I pray that grace will be extended to me. :)

Blessings,
Susan

Hi Wendy -

I wish that I'd had a link for everyone, but it was a last-minute addition to the post. I'm sure you'll find it with no problem.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Hi Kathleen -

Karen and I know firsthand how easy it is for little things to slip by unnoticed. I'm so grateful for critique partners, who provide those extra pairs of eyes.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Oh, Susan. Finding errors in print is my pet peeve. I cringe almost every day when I find mistakes in the newspaper . . . and what's with that television commercial that uses the word "funner"?!

Your posts always lead me to ponder.

Blessings.
Jean

Hi Jean -

I find myself editing as I read, and it does pull me out of the story. While I overlook the occasional problem, if it's extreme, I'll put down the book.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Oh, thank you, Susan! I really need this checklist. If I don't have a list of some kind, I tend to go all over the place, in editing, and in life:) This is great! Thanks
Kristen

What an excellent list. I love the idea of checking on a certain word to see if you use it too often. I would never have thought of doing that, but I'm sure I'm guilty of the offense.

Hi Nancy -

I know I overuse some words. The strange thing is I don't realize it when it's happening.

Blessings,
Susan :)

I'm looking forward to Living By Grace!

I can use all the help I can get, too, with editing. Thanks for the link, Susan!
