Friday Round-Up - #87

Like most readers and writers, I own many bookmarks. I thought it would be fun to check out the development of this handy little invention. Enjoy!

Since I'm doing research for my next manuscript, I find myself questioning where various items originated. While looking at an appealing book cover, I wondered when publishers began using them. So, for inquiring minds, here's a brief history of book jackets.

Have a safe, fun weekend!

I always lose my bookmarks and end up dogearing the pages of my books. *sigh* Bookmarks are so much nicer.
It's cool that you're doing research on all this. Have fun!

Hi Susan,
I love trivia! I would be one of those people who would like to own a time travel machine. This was very interesting. Thanks, and give us more!

I'm a visual person so book covers are a huge part of what draws me to a book. Thank goodness for cover art!

That was an interesting account of bookmarks. I have a 8x11 envelope full of them. I like the short ribbons from wedddings and weight watchers best because they are flexible and flat. In the discussion, my favorite was the little girl with the pansies. I love anything Victorian.

Very cool! Would like a vellum book jacket! Surely that would make me more professional!!!

Great history! I had to chuckle because my kids have destroyed almost all of my book jackets!

Hi Alisa -

Book jackets are fragile. When I have a hardcover book, I'm extra careful with the cover.

Hi Jan -

I enjoy reading about how things were invented. If I find any other bits of trivia, I'll pass it along. :)

Hi Jess -

I usually have some many books started that I run out of bookmarks. Grocery receipts, post-it notes, and other pieces of paper get pressed into service.

Blessings,
Susan :)

I never use bookmarks and like jessica, fold back the page. Ugh. Have a good weekend and I am still praying for that perfect job for you! But ENJOY this time off! I didn't enough!

I must have a hundred bookmarks, but can I find one when I need it? I use 3 x 5 cards, business cards, church bulletins, etc...

That's so funny! I'm the same way.

What an awesome topic! Have you seen the Christian kids' series, Angel Wars? It is interesting to see how they intervene on our behalf. It kind of balances C.S. Lewis's Screwtape Letters.

Hi Alisa -

No, I haven't seen Angel Wars. I'll have to check out the series. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Susan :)
