The Source

Years ago, a local store ran an ad campaign calling themselves, "The Source." If you needed something, they had it.

The last few days, my time in the Word and prayer dwindled to almost nothing. I'm noticing my spiritual cupboard looks bare. Ideas for blogs, articles, and devotionals have evaporated like the morning dew. Compound this lack of devotional time with a sore throat and cold, and I'm having thoughts about throwing in the writing towel. Mind you, I'm not taking them seriously, but I know I'd better deal with the situation.

I need to go back to THE SOURCE - my Lord. He's the wellspring of all creativity. Whenever I'm struggling with my writing, it's usually because I haven't come away to sit at His feet.

Have you noticed a correlation between your devotional time and enthusiasm for writing?

Hmm, no I hadn't. But I think you're more devoted than me. That's something I really want to fix. You're right. We get empty without Him and if we're not careful, we'll fill our cupboards with junk.
I hope this cold clears up soon!

Hi Jessica -

Good point. We don't live in a vacuum. If we're not filled with God's Word, something else will jump into that void.

I'm taking Mom to the doctor today for a check-up. We're both better, but not 100%. I took the last of the antibiotics today. Thanks for your prayers.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Oh yes, I know eactly what you're saying. When I start getting excited about my walk with the Lord, a charge sparks in my writing. When I'm not walking with Him like I should be, it seems the words disappear right along with my enthusiasm for Christ.

It makes perfect sense that this would happen. The Lord gives us gifts to use for His glory, but why would He waste His blessings on me when I'm not living entirely for Him?

Thanks Susan. I needed that.

Hi Sarah -

When I'm too busy, too tired, too sick to spend time with the Lord, I'm just plain too busy. I find that when I make Him my priority, He multiplies my time - weird as that may sound. I get more done.

I think we all need a reminder from time to time. I'm back on track now, and the ideas are once again flowing.

Blessings,
Susan :)

You might have something in seeing a correlation between devotional times and writing. I set a goal for myself to write 300 words a day in 2009. This afternoon and tonight I went almost 4 times that amount. One night last week I did twice that amount. Yes, I spent a lengthy time in devotions this morning. And that day last week.

Hi Quiet Spirit -

Thanks for sharing your experience. Congratulations on exceeding your word counts!

Even when I'm not writing as much as I should, the ideas are still flowing if I'm in the Word. Now, I have to discipline myself to sit down and write.

Blessings,
Susan :)
