Internet Treasure Hunt

When I was a kid, I enjoyed Nancy Drew. Many stories involved treasure maps or disciphering clues. The Internet is like a giant treasure hunt. Here are some of the things I've discovered in my travels:

1.  Zoe McCarthy gives 5 tips on building relationships. She stresses a genuine caring to see others succeed.

2.  K. M. Weiland guest posts at The Write Conversation about using lighting to communicate mood in a scene.

3.  I love teacups and saucers. While most of my modest collection aren't antiques, it's fun to read about them. Here's a website that gives tips for beginning collectors.

Writers:  What are some of the techniques you use to show danger or match a dark mood?

Readers: When reading a book, what makes a scene creepy for you?

Hi Susan, I hope you're well. :)

You're so right about the internet being a treasure trove. Here in Australia, we have a fabulous archive of newspapers dating as far back as the early 1800s. Now that's real treasure for a history nut like me. I think it's pretty cool the site is called, Trove. :) You could leave me there for days.

Blessings for a wonderful weekend.

A granddaughter is getting married next month and has chosen a country theme. She's discovered we have boxes of tea cups in our basement... never unpacked through our last four moves... and is excited about using them at the reception. They belonged to my inlaws but other than that I don't know any of their history. I'm a pottery person.

As for your writers' question... an easy answer is bad weather, but that can easily become a cliche. I try to use it subtly but I also use confined spaces, dark colours....

Thanks for yet another good treasure hunt, haven't been at K.M. Weiland's blog for a while, and she writes an interesting post about changing the lighting in our stories.

Hi Dotti - I'm well, thank you! That website sounds interesting. Could you send me the link?

Hi Carol - Congrats on your granddaughter's upcoming wedding. I'm sure the family heirlooms will add a special touch to the occasion.

Hi Marja - Yes, I must get there more often. :)

Blessings,
Susan
