Birthday Reflections

Yesterday, I celebrated my birthday. It's natural to reflect on years gone by, as well as wonder where they all went!

Here are a few thoughts that occupied me during my birthday month:

1) My appreciation for the gift of time grows daily. It's a non-renewable resource. My desire is to live for the Lord and produce what has eternal value.

2)  When thinking about how I'm treated, my attitudes are filtered through the Word of God. Bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment, and holding grudges will:

A)  Sap my joy
B)  Hurt my spirit, soul, and body
C)  Keep me from moving forward in God's plan for my life.

3)  God is love, and I want that to be the most important part of my character.

Writers and Readers: What thoughts go through your heads on birthdays? For those of you who write, how have the passing years affected your work?

Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoyed your day and were surrounded by loved ones.

Many thoughts go through my head during my birthday: Am I living the best life I can live with the tools I have? What type of example have I given my children over the past year? What goals have I reached in the year gone by? What goals do I need to re-calibrate so that they are within reach? Where do I plan to be next year? Yes, indeed, my birthday has become a day of celebration and reflection, as many milestones are, right?

As for my writing, I'd like to think the maturity that comes with age is reflected there. I hope so!

Be well and enjoy your week. :-)

Today is our oldest son's birthday. Recently he became a grandfather himself... and that strikes me as being more significant than the passing of my own years (or that it made me a *great* grandma). It doesn't seem like even a decade ago that I was his age and busy doing the kind of things he's now doing, but reality proves the years have been passing with increasing speed. The next decade will go by twice as fast as the last one, and *that* is what affects my writing.

There's so much I want to get out of my head and onto pages before my life is done. Time takes on an urgency as I get older. I'm spending more time writing, and wasting less on pursuing the uncertainty of publication.

Age gives a different perspective on life's priorities. Your #1 point is the main one for me. :)

Happy birthday, Susan. Each year is more precious as they seem to rush by. I find myself being more grateful for little things.

Happy birthday Susan, thanks for sharing some of your thoughts on growing older and wiser :)

Susan:
I become conscious of the fleeting nature of time. If I am not having a good health day, time seems to fly past. Being in therapy has made me more aware of the onset of time (age wise) and how quickly a day can go by.
I can only hope that my writing can improve as I mature in years.

I've been thinking along these lines too (even though my birthday is not until summer.:) The older I get, the more I've learned to savor and treasure time with family and friends.

Hi Susan - Happy Birthday (belatedly) .. you're the same as my grandmother and for some reason she popped into my head on the 23rd ...

I don't panic, or get stressed .. I just keep on doing what I can, as I can ...

Not having children means I can think about what I'd like to do .. and I'm working in that direction, though others still take priority ..

Cheers to you - and have a wonderful year ahead - Hilary
