The Future of Publishing

With all the moans and groans about the economy and the future of publishing, I thought we needed a bit of hope. Every time I see a picture like this, I smile. I'm honorary auntie to this Sweet Baby Girl. Thanks to her mom for allowing me to post her pictures.

Lest you think this is unusual, Sweet Baby Girl's mom has at least three pictures of her "reading." Having just turned one, "reading" books is listed as one of her favorite activities. Mom put up the cutest video recently of her looking through a book and signing the word, "book." It reminded me of a fellow-blogger's post on Baby Sign.

Just remember, when Jane Austen penned her classics, none of us were around.

Hi Jess -

The video was even cuter, but it would have revealed her name. I melted when I saw her signing book.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Hi Sarah -

Thank you. She's saying quite a few words, as well as using some baby sign language. I'm always amazed at how she gravitates toward her books.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Very precious! I took to books immediately. I wish my daughter would. I'm still working on her. She's now eleven.

Hi Jennifer -

I was a lot like Sweet Baby Girl, but had difficulty learning how to read. My problems put a severe crimp in my enthusiasm for five years. I'm so thankful for several great teachers, my parents, and, most of all, the Lord for bringing me through that time.

Maybe a kids' book club would encourage your daughter's interest. Seeing other girls enjoy reading might light a spark. Nancy Rue, Kristi Holl, and other children's authors produce fine books for young people.

Blessings,
Susan :)

I love this! I spent the past week reading to my grandson every day--and never thought about that wonderful possiblility still being there!

Hi Terri -

I have many fond memories of my parents and grandparents reading stories to me. It instilled a love for books that is still with me today.

Blessings,
Susan :)
