Cindy Wilson, at the
Writers Alley, talks about specific character descriptions.
Writers: What tips do you have for effective character descriptions?
Readers: Is it hard for you to visualize what a character looks like? Do you rely on the book cover?
Have a blessed weekend!

I find I usually formulate a picture in my mind almost right away if the book is well written. I do get clues from the cover sometimes. Is that cheating? :P

Hi Karen -
I also rely on the cover art. :)

I like what Cindy said about the house, whether it is messy or neat. I love internal things like that, but I do want to know how a character looks and I find that many modern books don't even bother with physical description. They rely on personality. That's nice, but difficult if you are trying to picture a character. I don't rely on cover art much because most of my books don't have a picture of the hero/heroine.
Hi Nancy - I also like physical descriptions to go with the cover art.
Happy Mother's Day!
Blessings,
Susan :)
