I am a history buff and when I look at what some of these guys wore I have to wonder just what they heck were they thinking. Add in heat and humidity and oh boy! No wonder the Middle Easterners wore (and still do) tunics. Nice and cool. Free flowing for those most uncomfortable weather conditions.
