I preview my work in Blogger and often catch mistakes. What are some of the methods you use to catch those "oops" in your manuscripts or blog posts?

    I re-read many times and still catch mistakes. My husband reads my posts and points out mistakes to me as well, so he's a good proof reader :)
    It helps to read aloud.

    I guess I usually do it the old-fashioned way: read through out loud. Occasionally something glaring slips by me. Good thing I read my work over and over!

    Laurel has a great idea. I'm sure lots of thing pop out when the page is printed differently. That's one more idea besides your own critique and that of a friend.

    I still catch mistakes.

    I think most are made with tired eyes.

    Hi Marja - Another set of eyes always helps.

    Hi Dena - When Karen and I learned they didn't use contractions in Colonial times, we went through our manuscript. It took 3 or 4 times before we caught every one.

    I also read my work over and over again. Like running a comb through hair, when I finally don't find any snags, I know it's finished....or at least I am!

    I like your analogy. I remember the days when I had long hair - ouch.

    Mistakes in the manuscript affect me the same way. They're downright painful.

    I read it over once or twice, but when I post it, I still have boo-boos I didn't catch. I simply don't have time to have someone else proof it!

    I've had plenty of stuff slip through and go live on the blog. When I see it, I go back in and make the correction.

    It's difficult without that second set of eyes.

    I use the voice function on my iBook to read it aloud to me. That way my eyes don't play tricks on me.
