Friday Round-Up - #186

Shawn Lamb, at All-on Writing, compares publicity methods of yesteryear with the new landscape of Social Media.

Writers: Do you yearn for the good ol' days or are you excited about the present? Why?

Readers: How active are you with Social Media? Do you have a Facebook, Twitter, or other account?

Have a blessed weekend!

  1. I think we have great publicity tools at our fingertips - easier and more accessible than in the past. I still, however, am not crazy about the marketing aspect of writing. It is necessary, though, so I am grateful for these tools.

  2. I know this new media is needed and helpful to most people. I probably won't be signing up for most of it. I guess I do like the good old days, at least the days when there weren't quite so many choices.

  3. Hmm, for some reason I don't see the link, Susan. But to answer your question, I try to be as active as time allows. Some days it's more than others, depending on how independent my kiddos decide to be. :)

  4. Susan:
I am on LinkedIn, and Facebook. I find LI interesting. FB keeps me in touch with writers, and some people from church, and some from high school. I don't do the FB games, they are too time consuming.

  5. Hi Karen - I don't like the time it requires, but I guess a book tour would be a lot worse.

Hi Nancy - Yes, it's sometimes hard to decide which venue will produce work best for us.

Hi Sarah - I'll have to check that out.

Hi Quiet Spirit - I don't mess with the games either. I'm on Facebook and Twitter.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  6. My apologies! I don't know why the link didn't come through. If I can locate it, I'll put it in the post.

  7. I love all new technology Susan, a lot of things have become easier and less expensive. But sometimes I think life was more simpler, more pleasant in the old days. Pro's and cons.

  9. Hi Marja -

I guess there's always a trade-off. The Internet has made information readily available, but that can be both good and bad.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  10. I have FB and that's my main tool. Twitter is second followed by Goodreads. Google + is on my To Do List but I'm in no hurry.

  11. I am now spending more time on blogs and social media than writing. It can be overwhelming somedays. Merry Christmas, Susan.

  12. Hi Stephen - From what I've observed, you're very involved with social media. I don't know much about Good Reads, but I'll have to look into it - someday.

Hi Linda - Oh, I know what you mean! It does eat up a ton of time.

I'm so glad I can finally comment on your blog. Maybe it's the new computer. :)

    Blessings,
    Susan
