Do you have the editing blues? Janalyn Voight, at Author Haven, shares 5 ways to edit.

How do you approach editing once your rough draft is finished?

Have a blessed weekend!

  1. Thanks for this Friday Round-up Susan. My work always needs a lot of editing, first of all because English is not my first language :) and second of all I write like I talk, and that's not always correct :0
I write my non-fiction rough drafts in a flow and later on I add personal stories, humor, love, whatever will make it more readable!

  2. Hi Marja -

English may be your second language, but you're quite fluent. :)

Thank for sharing your method with us. My rough drafts include everything, but then I go back and work on the craft aspects - showing versus telling, passive verbs, etc.

    Blessings,
    Susan

  3. I can't imagine editing a whole book. That would take - well, a whole lotta coffee.

Enjoy that conference, Susan! And speaking of coffee, I'm sharing some tomorrow with your conference room mate! Can't wait.

    Waving,

    Rhonda

  5. Right now I don't have the editing blues, it's more like the finishing the current project blues! For some reason they have been more challenging. Onward and upward though, they will not finish themselves! :)

    Blessings,
    Karen

  6. I think I used all of the editing points when I did my books. But instead of having a second person look at my whole book at the end, a friend did it chapter by chapter.
I think that with point #1, it would be better to have the whole book checked out at once. Thanks.

  7. Oh dear ... I think I'd make a better editor than one who submits for editing. Thus I'm not having any editing problems right now. :)

  9. Hi Nancy -

I've usually gone the chapter by chapter route. However, my entire book is currently with a friend, who will critique it.

We'll see how things work out.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  10. Hi Sassy -

When it comes to my own work, I have too many blind spots. Thankfully, I have friends who are not afraid to point out my shortcomings.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)
