On My Nightstand - A Memory Between Us by Sarah Sundin

Charismatic Major Jack Novak is accustomed to winning. When Lieutenant Ruth Doherty, an army nurse, evades his attempts to woo her, he takes the challenge to heart.

Ruth carries the responsibility of providing for her younger siblings. Yet, it's her terrible secrets from the past that stand between her and love.

Author Sarah Sundin's book, "A Memory Between Us," was recently named one of the Top Ten Christian Fiction Books of 2010 by the Booklist, the magazine of the American Library Association. It's well deserved.

The characters grapple with their emotional turmoil, past mistakes, and relationship with God. The process moves along at a good pace, but is not rushed.

If you love romance and/or WWII action, this book will seize you and not let go until the last page. BTW, I loved this cover design.

Do you like romances in wartime settings? Can you name a few of your favorites?

  1. Hmm, I actually haven't read too many romances in wartime. I don't know if I like those ones so much. But I'll have to try Sundin whenever I run across her. Maybe she'll change my mind. :-)

  3. Have to sat I am not a big fan of romance in war time stories. Unless there are wormholes involved. Now that has potential!

  4. Long ago, I read the Thoene books set in World War II and the series they did on Israel. Loved 'em, but it's been a very long time since I read anything like that.

Happy birthday, BTW. I wish you a real Olive Garden feast!

    :)

  7. Hi Karen -

Aww, thanks! I had a nice day. I'm sure you noticed I've been absent from the blogosphere all day. :)

  8. Hi Stephen -

Really? I would think an element of romance might provide some relief from the war stories.

Isn't Chase Manhattan going to have a girlfriend along the way? Even Superman had Lois Lane as a love interest.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  9. Hi Rhonda -

Alas, no "real" Olive Garden feast for me today. My friend wasn't able to join us due to illness, so Mom and I went to one of our usual places.

I haven't read any of the Thoene books so far. My current to-be-read pile will keep me busy for many months.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  13. Hi Tonya -

I read Civil War era books, but these were my first WWII books. Sarah did extensive research, and the end results earn the "Wow" designation.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)
