    The two tips go together. I think a clearly-defined purpose is all about finding out who you are as a person and pursuing writing projects that express that. The second tip, not imitating others, means finding your voice and not writing things just because they are easy or what everyone else is doing. Find projects that you love and that fit who you are.     Thanks for summarizing the articles. Copying other writers won't bring out our unique gifts.

    On Antiques Road Show, they sometimes find excellent copies of genuine articles. While the items have some value, it doesn't come close to the original. I always wonder how far the artist would have gone if they'd developed their own ideas.
