The Journey

Luke 2:4-5

Years ago, I remember pregnant women past their due date being advised to take a bumpy car ride. Mary, the mother of Jesus, endured an 80-mile ride between Nazareth and Bethlehem. With Joseph traveling on foot and her on a donkey, the trip would have taken between four to seven days.

On our journey through life, we encounter many stressful situations. Just as Mary and Joseph did what they had to do, we can follow their example of perseverence.

    It does seem bumpy at times, doesn't it? So thankful the Lord is leading my "donkey."

    Isn't it also amazing that during such a long journey, God didn't allow her baby to be born any sooner or for her to have complications?

    God watches over us and each of us is part of a plan.

    When I think of Mary and Joseph's story I feel silly for whining about my car. Can you imagine how rough the trip to Bethlehem had to be? I'm so glad the Lord loved mankind so much that He sent His only Son to save us.

    I can't imagine having to travel on a donkey or by foot. It was difficult enough using buses and subways growing up and into my adult years. Like you, it gives me a new appreciation for my car.

    Great post, Susan. Makes me wonder why I groan at all my little bumps. God is so patient. I bet Mary had lots of patience, too. Something to ponder this season.

    Oh my gosh! LOL I can't imagine riding a donkey when I'm pregnant. It would like the baby would just bounce right out! LOL
