Friday Round-Up - #23

A hat-tip to C. J. Darlington for a post on Thomas Nelson's call for book reviewers. I visited the website, and signed up. I'm waiting for the review copy of a book called, "Billy." As you may have guessed, it's about a little-known incident in Billy Graham's life.

I finished Karen Kingsbury's last book in the Baxter Family Series, "Sunset." Without realizing it, I started the series late. (By the way, this is a fabulous series. I only missed the Redemption phase.) This has happened to me several times. Awhile back, I picked up a book by Beverly Lewis, only to discover it was the last book of a series. You'd think I'd learn, but I did the same thing with a B. J. Hoff series. Sigh. It's necessary to pay attention to those little numbers on the cover. A friend recently gave me a book, but I won't read it until I purchase the previous books in the series. Has this happened to you?

  1. YES!
I hate reading series, personally. Unless they're standalone. Otherwise I get really frustrated when I finish one book and then have to hunt up another to see what happens.
I started Karen's about the actor who's the Baxter's firstborn and now I can't find the other ones. Erk. It's bothersome.

I'm playing tag on my blog. You're invited to play. :-)

  2. Happens to me all the time. I've read books in the middle of a series all the way through and still didn't realize they were part of a series.

  3. Hi Jessica -

Too bad we don't live closer. I have the entire Forever and Sunrise series by KK. They're worth the hunt.

I saw your post. When I do my blog posts, I'll check it out again.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  4. Hi Sarah -

With some authors, you can get away with reading a book out of sequence. Many of them are complete in themselves. It's the ones that leave you hanging at the end of a book that create problems.

Even though I didn't read KK's Redemption series, I didn't feel lost with the story. She fills you in on the details. I was sorry that I missed them because I love her books.

    Gotta run.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  5. Hi Jessica -

I had another thought for you. Amazon has all of KK's books online. Check out the used ones. They're very reasonable. It might stretch your book budget.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

P.S. I hope all the authors out there won't lynch me for that suggestion. Some folks can't afford to pay full price.

  6. Susan:
I used to work in a library. I made that discovery for myself with one of Beverly Lewis' books. I learned to watch for that. Some of the patrons would ask us to help them check the author's website or the page listing the other books by a particular author,

  7. Hi Quiet Spirit -

I picked up some of these books at a thrift store and a book outlet. Sometimes we learn the hard way.

I hope I've spared a few people out there the frustration of missing books in a series.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)
